Open House London

A view of the London skyline including the BT Tower

If you love architecture and interior design – and planning to be in London next weekend – then don’t miss Open House London which takes place from 18 – 19 September.

Called the capital’s greatest architectural showcase, you’ll have the opportunity to visit some amazing public buildings and private residential homes of all types and periods, including some architecturally designed modern homes. And best of all, it’s completely free!

It’s a totally inspiring event, and with an incredible 730 buildings and events listed you’ll be spoilt for choice. Be prepared for a busy weekend …

One of the main highlights includes a rare opportunity to visit the revolving Floor 34 of the BT Tower.  For a chance to visit this one you’ll have to hurry as entry is by a ticket draw only, and applications close on Monday 13 September at 5.00pm.

Apart from the BT Tower, there are plenty of other buildings for architect buffs to visit including the Foreign Office and Indian Office, the Royal Ballet School: Bridge of Aspiration, Trellick Tower and the RSA (Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce).

What I particularly enjoy though, is the opportunity to visit private homes. At some of them you’ll even get a guided tour by the architect who designed it. It’s fascinating to gain an insight into what it is like to live in some of these original modern homes.  Whether you’re interested in interior design, looking to renovate or improve your own home, you are bound to be inspired by some innovative design ideas.
