Happy Bloggerversary To Happy Interior Blog

A big congratulations to Igor on the first anniversary since he started his Happy Interior Blog. He came up with an original – and heartwarming – way to celebrate. For every person who leaves a comment on his First Bloggerversary post, he will donate one Euro to the charity Building Trust International. The party is still going on until Sunday 28 October, so hurry over to his blog and contribute to the celebrations by adding your comment.

A stylish Halloween dinner party

When you think of Halloween parties, what comes to mind? I’m guessing stereotypical carved pumpkins. Rachie at A Chi Chi Affair has discovered this Halloween Party that is far more sophisticated. An intimate candlelit setting with a Parisian influenced colour palette of matte black, ivory and golden orange hues. And don’t miss the hollowed out white pumpkin transformed into a wine holder.

How do you feel about silk and artificial flowers?

Rona of Flowerona blog wrote an interesting discussion piece about having silk and artificial flowers in the home. Her allegory, comparing them them to Marmite, is a good one: some people love them while others loathe them. What do you think – should you only ever have fresh flowers in the home, or is there a place for silk and artificial ones?

A Welsh Falling Water holiday rental

If you’re looking for a quick autumn getaway, Kate from Your Home Is Lovely has discovered a great holiday rental that bears a resemblance to Frank Lloyd Wright’s Falling Water house. Situated deep in the picturesque Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons, it cantilevers over the River Ysgir. With a cosy log fire, scenic views, beautiful architecture and interiors, it would make the perfect retreat for a few days.

5 minimalist concealed kitchens

If you have a small home, hiding your kitchen behind doors and keeping clutter out of sight makes a lot of sense. Remodelista features five minimalist kitchens concealed behind doors. They include a rustic and industrial combination, warm oak and a sophisticated black kitchen. The one thing they all have in common is beautiful design. And there are some great ideas for storage you could try in your kitchen too.

An easy way to organise messy electrical cables in your home

With so many electronic devices, most of us have a sea of tangled wires in our homes. Live Simply by Annie tackles the cord issue this week on her blog. There’s a very handy infographic with images of different types of cables and explanations of  exactly what they each do. She also has some great suggestions for how to label and identify all your cables.

Don’t make plans: Do everything just for fun

How many times have you set a goal or made a plan only to fail and feel disappointed? Leo of Zen Habits shares an interesting philosophy: everything he does is just for fun. He explains that sticking to plans is meaningless, because we usually fail about a third of the time anyway. He suggests letting go of expectations and not making yourself feel like a failure if something you do isn’t a complete success. As well as making you feel happier, this great philosophy may ultimately make you more productive, because you’ll enjoy everything you do.
